Guest Post: Grace R. Duncan

Welcome to #FeatureFriday! Today I have an author I’ve worked with for several years now, and on several very varied stories! It’s a special post, too, since it’s an anniversary! Happy 3rd year anniversary, Grace!

RIP Hugh Rawson

Found out I lost a great friend and author last night. Hugh Rawson had been fighting for a long time, but now is hopefully at peace.

Hugh worked in movies in his younger years, working his way up to an assistant producer to films such as Crocodile Dundee and Maria’s Lovers. There he met many people and touched their lives, and had wonderful stories to tell about his time on (and off) set. He worked with names such as Jon Kilik (Hunger Games), who he kept in touch with even after he traded big-time sets for small-town life.

He continued to engage the minds of others with his sci-fi book, Secrets of a Universe: The Mindkey Project. The first planned of seven, it is the only one released. I had the pleasure to work with him on it. He had an incredible imagination that will live on in his writing.

Rest well, my friend, and I’ll see you in the astral world.

Status Update: Homeward Bound

I am happy to officially announce that I only have three  jobs, all of them in editing! Today was my last day in an office building. I can’t honestly say I’m sad to go.

Dreamspinner Press made me an off I couldn’t refuse, which I happily accepted. I will continue to work for Entranced Publishing and to do freelance for my wonderful Indie authors. I also have an application in for another publishing house, but I don’t know if that will lead anywhere.

So YES, I am still taking new authors. Tell your friends. I’m excited to see a few returning authors this summer and can’t wait to see their new projects! And YES, I will be working from home, but that still does mean *working*. And while I might not have an office with a view, it *is* a corner office! (Okay, so it’s just a corner desk, but still!)

I can only humbly thank those who have helped me get here (you know who you are). Thank you.

Status Update: Project Editor

Just a quick update to say that I’ve been offered a contract editor position for a publishing company! I’m super excited to be working with this team of editors. I’d been proofreading for them for almost a year and guess I did a good job! All that work is paying off!

Not to fear – I still love my indies and will continue working with you as well. And I’m still taking on new authors as well, just scheduling a little better now.

🙂

Epitaph III

Eight months is far to short a time to spend with you
After waiting eight years to find you.
You wagged your way into our home,
All big ears and smiles, you were perfect for us
And filled a void that we didn’t know was there.

Always ready to run and play,
You put up with everything our daughter did to you
With a patient look and gentle kisses.
Even though we said you were hers,
You were really ours.

Even when the seizures ranked your little body,
You shook them off
Not understanding what was going on.
We called your name and stayed with you,
Bringing you back to us.

You waited until I came home,
Fighting off the spasms long enough to say hi.
We kept watch,
But you needed something we couldn’t give.
We loved you too much to have you suffer.

Though it doesn’t make it easier for us,
Who are left with the hole you filled,
You can now rest easy, little Buddy,
Chasing the tennis ball in the sky
And forever smiling.

Sleep well, without fear of the tremors in the night, Kringle. We love you.

In Memory Of

**As some of you may know, I lost my grandmother, Martina, this week. I was asked to write something to read at the funeral and thought I’d share a little about the great woman she was.

My grandmother, Martina—my Nonnie—had a pretty good life. She told us so on one of our last visits to see her while she was in the hospital. While in her final days, she was but a shell of the vibrant person she used to be—old, run-down, unable to do a lot of things by and for herself. I ask you not to remember her this way, as she wouldn’t have wanted that. I ask you to remember her through the eyes of a child. Continue reading In Memory Of
