Blog Tour: Hope

Hi all! Today I have the pleasure of sharing one of the Forbes Mates books by Grace R. Duncan. Hope is the fifth story in the Forbes Mates series, which takes place in the good ol’ town of Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.

I’ve worked with Grace on many (all?) of her titles, and her writing continues to get stronger and more vivid. And yes, I did know her favorite author. 🙂

First, of course, is thanks to Tricia for giving me space today. I really appreciate it!

Which of your books is your favorite?

Eek! This is a hard one. There are so many different genres I write in that it’s hard to pick one. For the BDSM, I think Beautiful boy. That was one that just grabbed me and before I knew it, half of it was written. For the paranormal, I’m really torn between Patience and Acceptance. I love the humor I was able to write into Patience, but Quincy is probably my favorite of all my characters and I really want to write more with him.

Guest Post: Leto of the Ionian Sea

Today I’m hosting Maria Siopis, author of Leto of the Ionian Sea, part of the Resist and Triumph anthology.  All profits from this anthology, put together by Grace R. Duncan, go to The Trevor Project and GLAAD. Keep reading for an excerpt and giveaway below!

Tricia, I’m truly grateful for hosting me on your blog,

First of all, I want to thank Grace R. Duncan for taking an action toward what she felt was unjust and unfair, and all the writers who donated their stories and talent for a worthy cause. Each story has a voice, and each author skillfully produced fascinating characters to remind us that humanity could be saved if we only let words guide our way.

Similarly, I let the amorphous words in my head lead the way thus creating, Leto of the Ionian Sea, which is a story of resistance and triumph and draws a lot from my background. However, that was not my initial intention when I began typing the first letters on the screen, but soon my mind, heart and Homer took over. His legendary writings of Iliad and Odyssey filled me expending my desire to create something entirely different of what he offered to humanity. Besides where could we uncover democracy other than ancient Greece?

I hope that my miniscule contribution will make a difference in a world that is full of the modern plagues of hate, prejudice and governmental uncertainties. I hope our collective effort is successful. Below is an excerpt of my story where I introduce the idea of equality:

The sun was brighter today than any other day. Leto squinted her eyes and let the warmth engulf her face and body. She stayed in front of the gates as if she was afraid to progress forward. She was terrified of what the gods would reveal. She looked back at the palace and then moved forward. Melpo was behind her holding the basket with the gods’ offerings: Honey, and oils to burn for them. Leto wished to please them first before she evoked from them to reveal her fate. The pathway to the temple was narrow and wrapped around the mountain that was infertile of any vegetation. The soil was dry already, and the rain was evaporated returning to the gods. Dust cloaked Leto’s feet, and her sandals collected specks of dirt, but she continued walking. She could see the temple emerging gloriously at the peak of the mountain. The sculptures of deer were in full view, and the three steps at the entrance were decorated with leafs of daphne. She sat on the steps wiping off the sweat from her forehead and stared at the golden sea.

“My lady we have to go in before the sun reaches its zenith. It will be disrespectful to do it afterwards.”

Leto knew that Melpo was right. The offering had to be done before the sun was on top of the temple. How did she know her land’s customs? She was new and came from another state. Did her people make their offering to the gods the same way?

“You look perplexed my lady. We do our offerings to the gods the same way. Yet, my land is better…” Melpo said but stopped realizing that what she uttered was offending. “I’m sorry for being so blunt. I miss my land.”

“How did you get captured?”

“Our ship capsized. Poseidon was angry with us for an unknown reason. I was the only one not to cross Tartarus and I was saved by your people. The gods have plans for me.”

“Are you from the upper class?”

“There is no upper class in my state. Everyone is equal.”

Leto thought about this new idea that never crossed her mind before and made her reconsider what was known to her. She always felt that her land’s law was unjust, but no class would create turmoil and unrest. She wanted to ask this new servant how it was possible to maintain order, but the sun was progressing. She got up and offered her hand to the slave as if they were equal.

Blurb of the anthology:

As 2017 opened, the United States took several steps back in the progress toward equality. In response, a group of authors has stepped up to offer positive stories of hope and love. In an effort to help fight and support those groups who are facing even greater challenges, we wrote these stories to offer a small amount of aid.

Stories of hope, resistance, and ultimately triumph fill the pages of this anthology.

All proceeds of the anthology go to The Trevor Project and GLAAD to help fight the effects of the dark times we’re facing.

Rafflecopter: We are offering a free paperback copy of Resist and Triumph so we encourage everyone to enter our giveaway. It truly is a remarkable anthology.

Guest Post: Three Hearts

Hello and welcome! Today I have the lovely Grace R. Duncan on my page to promote her newest release Three Hearts. She’s going to talk about finding a cover for her book that fit both the story and the genre. Hope you enjoy!

~~~
Thanks so much to Tricia for letting me post here today!
When I wrote Three Hearts, I hadn’t given a lot of thought to the challenges publishing it would entail. In fact, I hadn’t given any thought to publishing it originally. I’d never thought I’d even write an mpreg, much less publish one, so when the story came out of me, I wasn’t thinking about the interesting issues that would emerge when faced with publishing it.
Guest Post: Tim Mettey
Today’s #FeatureFriday author is Tim Mettey! I was lucky enough to read and review his first book, Secrets, shortly before it came out. The main character, Nicolas, showed great courage and acceptance of what path life had in store for him, which made him very interesting to read about.
As the series progresses, Nicolas and Elle face incredible situations and learn a lot about not only their history, but themselves. They grow as the face challenges no “normal” teenager would have to face, and I can’t wait to see how the series ends.
Blurb Content
The first book in The Hero Chronicles series, Secrets, was published in 2014. I learned a lot while writing the book, but the most important thing I learned was patience. I worked on the story for years. At first I wanted to rush to get it into some format that I could share with others, but thanks to the encouragement I received from my friends, I took the necessary time to edit and get it ready for publishing.  And I am so glad I did.  I’ve continued refining my writing process through the other books in the series.  I have a great team of editors, graphic designer, and publicists who help me with the process as well.
Welcome to #FeatureFriday! Today I have my friend Mona with me. I’ve been working with Mona for a few years now, and have really gotten to see her grow as a writer. I’m currently doing a reedit for the book she features below and have another of her WIPs to look at after. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Guest Post: Marcus Damanda
For today’s #FeatureFriday, I have with me Marcus Damanda, author of The Salvation State. He’s bringing us a treat: a sneak peak at book two in the Salvation State series! Be warned, it’s unedited and subject to change, but here it is!
(You can find The Salvation State, as well as Marcus’s other books, here.)
Guest Post: C.S. Poe
Hello friends! My name is C.S. Poe, and I will be your train conductor today.
That’s not true.
I’ve never been a train conductor. Although I have ridden many trains.
I was happy to write a guest post for Trish’s blog, then realized afterward I had no idea what to talk about. So let’s look at topic options.
SimmerI have a new short story being released February 24th with Dreamspinner Press, as part of their anthology, Simmer. Its theme is men and food and happily ever afters. My piece is “Kneading You,” and features a super cute librarian, an equally sexy, tattooed repairman, and lots of bread baking. (Not a euphemism.) So I could talk about cooking, but really, I don’t like cooking. I do it only under duress. For someone who talks about food so much in her writing, you’d think it was my favorite hobby. I love eating. The work prior to— not so much.
So instead I’m going to talk about music and movies in books.
Didn’t expect that, did you?
I really enjoy adding these little tidbits to my writing. The mention of a television show or a particular song can, when used correctly, set a tone to the story without the author detailing it through additional or unnecessary words. There are pieces of art that are widely known, that move us as an audience, where just the mention of it subconsciously changes the reader’s mood.
An example of this is from one of my all-time favorite series, The Adrien English Mysteries by Josh Lanyon. Now and then there are mentions of songs by Rufus Wainwright, (particularly in one of the codas), which for those familiar with his music, you know what I mean. How his voice and melodies set the somber tone that matches Adrien’s mindset. I get shivers thinking about it! Heidi Cullinan is another excellent example of an author who knows how to use media in writing. Carry The Ocean focuses heavily on the film, The Blues Brothers, and that sense of hope and humor from the movie is deeply engrained in the novel.
In “Kneading You,” I mention a film and make reference to a particular scene, but it’s such a widely known moment in cinema that many readers will undoubtedly understand both the sexy suggestion, as well as how it can be found funny. Ghost, I admit, is one of my favorite movies. The love story is very powerful and beautiful, but it isn’t without its moments of hilarity. It was the perfect film to reference in “Kneading You,” because like I said, while there isn’t any pottery being done, there is quite a bit of dough kneading. If you can’t wait until release on the 24th, I will be sharing an exclusive excerpt to my newsletter followers! You can sign up for that here: https://tinyletter.com/cspoe
So what about you? Are there any books that mention songs or movies that changed the mood for you? Please share them with me!
Thank you for stopping by! Please feel free to friend me on social media. I love talking about cats, coffee, books, and meeting new people. I hope you’ll stick around as my releases roll out this year. May you always find love in the end!
New Release: Turning His Life Around
Hello and welcome back to the Turning His Life Around blog tour! I am doing something a little different with this tour and, I’ve put together a running short story. This story happens a couple of years before Turning takes place, when Ian is learning he’s in love with Kane but hasn’t quite accepted what all that means for him yet, since Kane doesn’t return that love.
The story goes for all nine tour stops! You can start it at Charley Descoteaux’s blog and follow the rest of the tour from the link at the bottom.
Be sure to catch each one because everyone who reads all nine and can answer a scavenger hunt questionnaire based on the story will be entered to win $25 a Dreamspinner Press!
