When she finally starts to accepts the long, lonely existence ahead of her, a stranger crashes into her life, and her heart.

After Nevan Mathews’ fiancée died three ago, he submerged himself into his work, cutting off all reminders of a life he dreamed of with the woman he loved. He lets his step-mother talk him into taking the first vacation in five years to visit for the holidays. But an accident delays his travel plans, sending him to Danica’s doorstep and raises a need he thought he would never feel again.

Can they tear down the walls around their hearts and submit to the passion before another claims Dani for his own?

Warning: Contains a shifter who’s scars run deeper than skin, a human who has the heart of a shifter, and a snow storm that’s sure to have them both reaching for warmth. Continue reading FMB Blog Tour: Winter Eve

Review: Winter Eve

Winter Eve
Winter Eve by Lia Davis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“You’re being lead away by a cat, like Alice and that damn rabbit…”

Danica just wants to be left alone, without the pity and sorrow her folk look at her with. But when she darts in front of Nevan’s car and leads him back to her house, alone is suddenly the last thing she wants to be anymore.

As this is a precursor to the actual Ashwood Falls series, it sets up the characters well, showing the depth of Dani’s scars and how Nev’s strange upbringing can help. Though short, readers can get an idea of what will follow, setting the stage for a unique blend of were/human interactions.

Winter Eve challenges readers to see the “pack” differently, to go beyond the scars (both inside and out), and to be true to your inner animal.

Review: Serenya’s Song

Serenya's Song
Serenya’s Song by Mysti Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I doubted heaven was within my reach until now, when two similar souls could make such beautiful music together and send my spirit soaring into the sky.

Serenya has the ability to interpret dreams and a birth defect that forces her to wear gloves. She’s endured small-town gossip and the cruelty of her husband, Sebastian, The Earl of Summerwind, but when Jayden comes to town, her world is turned upside down.

Having met Jayden in A Ranger’s Tale, readers will know some of his back story and why he is new to Summerwind. Serenya’s past (and present) is a tragic story, made worse when her tragic love is found in Jayden. What follows is a tale full of twists, inner turmoil, love, and lose befitting something out of Shakespear.

Love, adventure, a beautiful setting, strong characters–all reasons to pick up both Tallenmere books. The flowing language keeps reader’s attention, speeding this fantasy/romance towards it’s inevitable yet unpredictable conclusion.

Review: A Ranger’s Tale

A Ranger's Tale
A Ranger’s Tale by Mysti Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’d been through hell and back and thought I’d took up permanent residence there until I had Cali in my arms again.

Caliphany has an easy, if predictable, life as the King’s niece. As the daughter of Sirius, Leogard’s most famous wizard, she’s forced into following his footsteps and finds that it doesn’t suit her at all, and neither does her arranged marriage. She daydreams of adventure and is almost kidnapped. Fortunately, Galadin comes to her rescue, and the two of them strike a bargain–Galadin will train Cali to be a ranger.

What follows is a tale of adventure, of love, and of being true to yourself. Cali and Galadin are fleshed-out characters, each with their own flaws and ideas. The pain they feel is real. The hardships they face, separate and together, shape them in a way nothing else could.

The adventure is lively, filled with twists and turns and trials along the way. Just when readers think they know what will happen, some other choice comes along. Though in the end, love prevails.

The way everything comes together is a triumph of the author. Full of emotion, both grief and love, and adventure, A Ranger’s Tale is not to be missed for lovers of fantasy/romance. Do NOT judge this book by it’s cover–you WILL miss out.

Review: Nette

Nette
Nette by Barbara Rayne
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In the years that went by, our spending time together was the purpose of my life, the only reason to get out after waking up.

A brown-eyed girl born in a society where eye color determined gender, Nette was as used to being called a freak as she could be. Destined to be Queen, Nette watches as those she loves are taken from her until she is ready to follow her path.

How Nette reacts, and overcomes, her troubles is a testament to her character. This poor, discriminated-against girl who just wants to be loved is made into a strong, determined young women who sets off on the path laid in front of her. While using her “flaw” to her advantage, Nette learns to fight with the other soldiers, something that otherwise wouldn’t have happened in her time.

The unique world that Nette lives in can get bogged down by grammatical errors at points, but if the reader, as Nette, carries on, the story unfolds with lots of adventure, a touch of romance, and a strong lead character. Nette has a strong message of anti-hate with the realization that sometimes there has to be war before there can be peace.

Review: Blood Driven

Blood Driven
Blood Driven by Katie Reid
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

She’s going to expose us all…

Angel Black may look like a typical teenager on the outside, with money, boys, and school taking up her time, but she’s really the Princess of Vampires. Deciding to go to public school, Angel meets Chris and his friends, and falls into more trouble than she bargained for.

For being a vampire, Angel acts more like the normal teenage that she’s pretending to be, with a few exceptions, like her super hearing. She also dictates with sometimes painful detail the on goings of her everyday at school and her nights masquerading as the Princess, complete with play-by-play wardrobe choosing.

As such, the actual plot of the story is hard to uncover and the ending doesn’t seem like an ending at all, because, other than a few lead-up points, the actual plot didn’t get resolved–it didn’t really begin. The characters were mostly predictable, as was which side of the line they fell on was. The romance, as such, was stilted and, in an effort to avoid the now-cliche love triangle, introduced a love square.

Perhaps when matched with the concluding book, Blood Driven’s plot can conclude in a spectacular fashion, or at least, fashionably.

Review: Secrets

Secrets
Secrets by Tim Mettey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“What has he done?” “He has given us hope.”

Nicholas has been living a life full of secrets that he isn’t aware of, even though they revolve around him. Having fled his hometown with his aunt after a disaster kills thousands, Nicholas has drifted unnoticed through four other schools in four towns. Now, starting his sophomore year, he’s determined to make this year memorable, to be a part of it, even if it means his death.

While the transition from chapter one to chapter two is very confusing, as readers continue through, they find the story of a (mostly) typical teenager going to high school. The simple writing depicts Nicholas and Elle clearly, yet leaves older readers wanting more and noticing the inconsistencies that characters like Cora seem to be full of. There is a lot of build up, of potential, from the start that seems to get lost in the football games and school lunches.

Overall, Secrets was an entertaining read, fast-paced and full of mystery that keeps readers turning the page. Hopefully more will be explained/expounded upon in the second book, making Nicholas’ ‘secret’ come to life.

Review: Tirade

Tirade
Tirade by Cambria Hebert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Even the strongest adversaries had weaknesses. I just had to figure out what it was and exploit it.

Betrayed by her close friend, Heven is forced to leave Sam behind. Minutes stretch to days, and Heven’s rescue plan is full of holes. And full of danger.

This installment of the Heven and Hell series picks up with Sam in Hell and Heven desperate for his release. She seeks out Riley, Sam’s dangerous ex-roommate, in the hopes that he can aid her.

Full of the lifelike characters readers have come to expect from this series, Tirade once again shows Heven’s growth, her strength, and her courage. Sam shines on as Heven’s knight, and even Riley shows his true colors. Laughter and hardship lurks at every turn, but with Sam and Heven together, not even the devil can stop them.

SecretsFrontToday’s book is Secrets of a Universe by H. Brian Rawson. It turns out I probably interacted with Rawson when I was a teenager and didn’t even know it. Luckily for me, he ran into a mutual friend and we got in contact. I worked really hard on this book and I think it has a lot of potential! There is action, adventure, romance, “other” beings, and loveable characters all driving this book. I’m really looking forward to some reviews on this one!

Krystal Taylor has been under the military’s thumb since birth. Her power of astral projection requires it — without daily Mindkey treatments, she will die a horrible death. She wants freedom from her leash, the freedom to let her flesh and blood, not just her mind, experience the world.

While on an unauthorized hiking expedition, designed to give her some space from her spying duties and the hundreds of government agents and prying scientists who keep her alive, she is captured by a band of terrorists, threatening much more than her life. Unless Dan Parker, the director of the Mindkey Project, and Dr. George Larkin, its key scientist, can reach her in time, the entire planet may fall into the clutches of the worst terrorist mankind has ever produced.

From the farthest reaches of outer space to the inner depths of the planet Earth, every soul — dead or alive — waits, unknowingly, for Krystal to be found — or turned into a weapon.
