Twelve Days of Christmas: Day Two

The Why:

I’ve decided that I wanted to do something nice for the authors that have given me paperback review copies or have let me edit their work. So, in the hopes of getting them some more exposure and reviews, I’ve come up with a “Twelve Days of Christmas” giveaway. Every day until Christmas, I’ll be giving one paperback that I’ve reviewed &/or worked on. I do ask that you consider reviewing the book that you win, as this can always help the author and future readers!

The Book:

Midnight Magic: Be Careful What You Wish For!Today’s book is Midnight Magic: Be Careful What You Wish For by Nancy Di Fabbio.  The book follows Mattie, a horse crazy teen. Living in the small town of Gull’s Nest, she passes her summer days dreaming of owning her own horse and envying the rich girls that flocked to the town with their own horses to spend their summers riding and relaxing. But when Mattie takes a trip to see her Granny T and discovers a painting of Figure, a black horse with intense eyes, things start to change. She learns several lessons, including ‘Be careful what you wish for.’

This is a good book for anyone who loves horses and believes in a little magic. You can check out my review, then enter to win!

Noah Zarc: Mammoth TroubleToday’s book is Noah Zarc: Mammoth Trouble by D. Robert Pease. This is one of the first books I reviewed on my site. Noah Zarc is about a twelve-year-old paraplegic boy who travels throughout space and time on a mission to repopulate Earth with animals from all suitable time periods. With his family – Mom, Dad, brother Hamilton and sister Sam – Noah pilots the ARC (Animal Rescue Cruiser) while trying to stop Haon from preventing the re-population of all the animals on Earth.

I was lucky enough to have Noah stop by for an interview. If you’re interested in finding out a little more about Noah, check it out.

I’d also like to note that the sequel, Noah Zarc: Cataclysm is now out! I have my review up for that book as well. Continue reading Twelve Days of Christmas: Day One

New Release: Christmas Lites II

Today’s new release is a very special one. Last year, a bunch of authors got together to help out the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, raising money for them via an anthology. They actually let me put one of my stories in there as well, which was awesome. So this year, when I heard they were doing it again, I begged and pleaded until asked that they let me in again!

So I’m proud to announce the release of Christmas Lites II! It’s a collection of stories like none other (except the first volume), full of Christmas spirit, elves, zombies, and cheer! If you are looking for a unique gift this holiday season, pick one up!

New Release: Secrets of a Universe

Ok, for those of you who don’t know, I was lucky enough to be the editor on this one. It was one of those “right place, right time” kind of deals, and I’m really glad.

See, this book is set in my hometown (the name has been changed), is by a guy I swear I knew as a kid (but didn’t know him back then), and is part of a series to keep me busy for a long time. Though there were some road bumps in getting it publish-ready, we finally put it out there for the world. I truly hope it does well.

While the paperback isn’t out yet (will be soon, just waiting on the proof), the ebooks have hit the virtual shelves. I’d love to have some help spreading the word on this one — anyone that loves a good action-adventure, sci-fi should enjoy it — so if you’re willing to help, please contact me.

And now, the book!

Blurb:

Krystal Taylor has been under the military’s thumb since birth. Her power of astral projection requires it — without daily Mindkey treatments, she will die a horrible death. She wants freedom from her leash, the freedom to let her flesh and blood, not just her mind, experience the world.

While on an unauthorized hiking expedition, designed to give her some space from her spying duties and the hundreds of government agents and prying scientists who keep her alive, she is captured by a band of terrorists, threatening much more than her life. Unless Dan Parker, the director of the Mindkey Project, and Dr. George Larkin, its key scientist, can reach her in time, the entire planet may fall into the clutches of the worst terrorist mankind has ever produced.

From the farthest reaches of outer space to the inner depths of the planet Earth, every soul — dead or alive — waits, unknowingly, for Krystal to be found — or turned into a weapon.

New Release: The Path of Needles

It is my pleasure to present to you The Path of Needles by Hannah Kollef! If you like fairy tales, be sure to check this one out. It’s a new twist on an old tale mixed with some modernization. A must-read, for sure! I can’t wait to work on the sequel!

ALSO! I have a wonderful guest post about where the idea for this story came from and what tales were its influence. Keep reading for this sneak-peak into the mind and world of Hannah Kollef… I mean, Kat Finnegan. 🙂

Blurb:

When 17-year-old Kat Finnegan is warned in a Brooklyn alleyway that her father is going to disappear, she shrugs and walks away. The next morning her father is gone–leaving behind a booby-trapped apartment and a mystery that has slept for a thousand years.

To get him back, Kat and her twin brother Roger will have to unravel the secrets behind the Rose Queen–the fairy queen who ripped apart reality and stitched it back together, transforming the Fey into the memories known as fairy tales. They will also have to come to grips with their emerging powers and discover why they are known to the magical world as “The Truth” and “The Lie.”

Hunted by demons and treacherous Fey, Kat and Roger follow the Queen’s trail from Manhattan to Newark. But neither the Queen nor her curse is what they expected, and more is at stake than their father’s life–and theirs.

Path of Needles is the explosive first book in the Paths series: urban fantasies littered with deadly fairy tales, tangled romance, and heartbreaking betrayals. Continue reading New Release: The Path of Needles

Status Update: Project Editor

Just a quick update to say that I’ve been offered a contract editor position for a publishing company! I’m super excited to be working with this team of editors. I’d been proofreading for them for almost a year and guess I did a good job! All that work is paying off!

Not to fear – I still love my indies and will continue working with you as well. And I’m still taking on new authors as well, just scheduling a little better now.

🙂

Cover Reveal: Path of Needles

I’m happy to reveal to you the cover of Path of Needles! Make sure you put this one on your TBR list — I worked on it and can say, it’s a unique twist on fairy tales.

Excerpt:

The Midnight Ball

The clock was about to strike midnight as I stood beside a potted bamboo plant, nursing a stolen glass of wine and praying no one would see me. My red dress chafed. My high-heels were killing me. The noise level in the gallery was almost deafening. And if I had to listen to one more person talk about the weather, I was going to scream.

And speak of the devil…

“Kat!”

Phil, my father’s literary agent, had spotted me. I tried to pretend I hadn’t heard him but it was too late. He was already motioning for me to join him. I smothered my groan, both at the thought of the conversation and the pain in my feet, and walked over to where he stood with a few other people.

“Hey, Kat,” he said eagerly. “We were just discussing all the weird weather we’ve been having. Did you feel the earthquake last week? An earthquake in New York City. Still can’t believe it.”

A blond woman cut in before I could answer. “I heard it was solar flares. That’s what caused the tsunami in Japan, you know. Terrible stuff. All those deaths.”

“Nonsense,” said a young man. I’d forgotten his name, but I was pretty sure he worked for NPR. His face was flushed and he slurred his speech a bit. “It’s Global Warming. Those goddamned Republicans have been ignoring us for decades and now they’re getting their proof. Tsunamis in Japan, earthquakes in New York City, tornadoes in Alaska. Alaska! And they gave us crap for the electric car!”

The young man suddenly turned to me, an expectant look on his face.

“Well?” he blustered. “Don’t you agree?”

“Uh…”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Phil cut in. “Her father is Jonathan Finnegan. Of course she agrees. All this nonsense about the Mayans, on the other hand…”

“What?!”

Thus began a heated debate in which I had little interest. Fortunately I spotted my uncle, Hank, standing beside the buffet table with a plate of fruit.

“I think I see my uncle,” I muttered and made my escape. I weaved my way through the crowd of polished literati, avoiding anyone who might recognize me as my father’s daughter. Waiters in black suits and glittering masks mingled with the crowd. They carried trays of drinks and the small finger foods partygoers like to admire but not eat. One stopped in my path. He was slighter than most men and had on a silver mask that extended into the air like wings beside his face.

There was something almost familiar about him. It might have been his thin lips, or the sharp, aristocratic slope of his nose. He didn’t speak, just held up a tray filled with a dozen glasses of red wine.

“I’m good, thanks,” I spluttered, holding up my half-full glass.

The waiter smiled and inclined his head, leaving before I could figure out who he looked like. The whole interaction had taken ten seconds, but it was disorienting. I wrote it off to the wine and hurried over to Hank.

He looked distinguished, as always, with his grey hair and closely cropped beard. The vintage Pink Floyd tee shirt he wore under his suit gave him an edge of cool that fit well with his New York art gallery. Hank was not his original name. He’d changed it before we were born, when he came to America and found people unable to pronounce his Russian name. He also wasn’t my uncle by blood. But he and my father had been friends for longer than I’d been alive, and they might as well have been brothers. He’d helped to raise me, and in some ways, was closer to Roger and I than our father.

“Save me,” I pleaded as I stopped at his side.

New Release: Pimp ur Blog Episode Three

I’m pleased to announce the release of Pimp ur Blog Episode Three: Working With Amazon and Google by Paul Rice! It’s currently free on Smashwords through July 31st.

Blurb:

Many bloggers and authors have experiences with Google and Amazon that they would like to share. Many more people will benefit from these shared experiences.

The third eBook in the Pimp ur Blog series is now open to multiple co-authors. My offer for Pimp ur Blog Episode Three: Working with Amazon and Google is to publish another edition each time I receive another co-author’s material. I will, of course, publicize each Episode Three edition with press releases, bookmark links on three-dozen social bookmarking sites, blog posts, social media, and inclusion of blurbs for each co-author’s other works.

I will add permanent links to each co-author’s blog or website on each PimpUrBlog.com page. The eventual result will be that each co-author’s name and/or blog will make its way into 100 or so associated links and references in Google’s search results!

The initial Episode Three edition starts with my experiences in working with Google as a blogger by describing how to access the wealth of information that Google Webmaster Tools stores for every blog. I share the details of the tests I ran with a $100 Google AdWords credit, and briefly review what effect the recent changes within Google have had when they filter down to our blogs’ Google search results.

I continue with my experiences in working with Amazon as an author who does not participate in Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing Select program. Episode Three wraps up with some items of interest from the previous eBooks in the Pimp ur Blog series.

Except that Episode Three does not really conclude at all. Anyone who wants to contribute as a co-author will always be welcome! Let me know what you think through the blog’s contact page, Paul Rice’s links, PRice@PimpUrBlog.com, comments, your review, or any other way you want.

Status Update: On The Mend

So, I had to have emergency surgery over this past weekend. Everything went well and I’m on the mend, but I’m behind in my reading and editing. As much as I know my body needed it, losing one day to the hospital and two days to sleep set me back. Oh well, life happens.

In other news, I got some great news from my pal Bill Talcott: he’s made me his official editor! I got the news this morning via Facebook that he has officially added me to the book. I’m thrilled! He writes a good story, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next! And if you haven’t checked out The Mission yet, see my review (written before I was his editor) and then go get a copy! It’s a quick read with good characters and thrilling plot – easy enough reading for a nice sunny weekend.

And let’s face it, Bill breaks in here enough that I just might as well give him the key anyway. 🙂

I also just finished the (as of yet unreleased) sequel to Jim Galford‘s first book, In Wilder Lands: The Fall of Eldvar. This is one book I can’t WAIT til it comes out! (Officially, that is…) The cover art on the first book is being updated and the same guy, Darryl Taylor, is doing the second book’s cover – his work is awesome! The book itself, called Into the Desert Wilds, picks up where the first one left off (kinda) and follows the characters across new lands. There are some details on Jim’s website, but I’m not going to give much away (yet!) though Jim has given me permission to rave about his book, so there will be future posts about it, I’m sure!

Oh! I almost forgot! I got interviewed! You can find out a little more about me and the authors I’ve worked with here.

New Release: The Taint: Sorrow’s Child

I’m pleased to announce the release of my latest project, The Taint: Sorrow’s Child by Georgina Anne Taylor! I’m really proud of this one – I think Georgina has done a great job creating her world and a character you (the reader) can really feel for and watch grow. I can’t wait for the next one!
