Series: Heven and Hell Series

Genre: YA/Paranormal

Publisher: Self Published

Release Date: May 3 2013

I’ve been beautiful. I’ve been ugly. I’ve died. I’ve been brought back. I’ve had abilities awakened within me. My strength has been tested. My beliefs have been tested.

Yet I stand.

What’s next when you’ve pretty much experienced it all?

The end.

Sam and I are picking up the pieces. We’re trying to come to terms with all we’ve lost. And as much as I would like to hide my head, ignore the reality I live every day, there is no forgetting.

Riley is in hell—I’m still not sure of his agenda. My mother’s past haunts me. And Kimber… Kimber is being herself. Cole sneaks glances at Gemma and she returns them when she thinks I don’t see.

But I do.

When Beelzebub escapes he brings his war to places I never thought he would. Earth. Maine. Home. Now everyone and everything is at risk. This has become bigger than my circle of friends. This has become bigger than me. I have to finish this. I have to find a way to stop him, to finish this war.

I just pray we will all be left standing in the end.

The conclusion to the Heven and Hell series.

Review: Byzantine Gold

Byzantine Gold
Byzantine Gold by Chris Karlsen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“Indulge me.”
“What’s my second choice?”
“Death by nagging.”
“As I suspected.”

Once again, Charlotte Dashiell, an American archaeologist, and her lover, Atakan Vadim, a Turkish government agent, are going to a dig. This time the crew is set to bring up a Byzantine Era warship carrying an unusual cargo of gold off the coast of Northern Cyprus. A terrorist cell has targeted the gold; Tischenko has tracked down Charlotte — will the lovers get time to further their relationship, or will this be their last excavation?

As in the first book, the characterization in Byzantine Gold was well done. Charletto and Atakan’s relationship grows in this book, and there are a number of well-written sex scenes. The downfall of this book was it’s length — it was very short compared to Golden Chariot, and lacked some of the details and descriptions that could have been added. The end could have been drawn out a little more to make it not feel so rushed, but it was still satisfactory.

This is a tension-filled underwater adventure sure to entertain those readers that enjoy romantic suspense. Charlotte and Atakan face some hardships — and not only from Tischenko — and come to find a balance in their relationship off-site as well as on-site.

Cover Reveal: A Ranger’s Tale

Today I’m happy to bring to you the

New Cover REVEAL: A Ranger’s Tale by Mysti Parker

The world of Tallenmere was born in January, 2011 with this first exciting story about Caliphany, an elven noblewoman who longs to leave her gilded cage, and Galadin, the half-elf former pirate who trains her to do just that. To better reflect its place in the burgeoning series and Caliphany’s choice between two good men, cover artist Caroline Andrus and I tore down the original cover to make room for a whole new look!

If you haven’t read this book yet, YOU’RE MISSING OUT! Check out my review of A Ranger’s Tale and Serenya’s Song, then go dive into the world of Tallenmere yourself! And now, the new art!

In the world of Tallenmere, an elven noblewoman longed to leave her gilded cage. A half-breed former pirate wanted nothing more than to escape his guilty past. Easier said than done…

High elf Caliphany Aranea leads an enviable life as King Leopold’s niece and daughter of Sirius, Leogard’s most famous wizard. Yet, being forced to follow in her father’s footsteps and being betrothed to a man she doesn’t even like makes her want a taste of life outside the city walls.

As a young boy, half-elf Galadin Trudeaux witnessed his parents’ death at the hands of pirates. After being raised by those same murderers and forced to do their bidding, he escaped and now lives an honest life as a sea merchant and ranger.

When two brutes at Leogard Harbor attempt to kidnap Caliphany while she dreams of faraway lands, Galadin comes to her rescue. Impressed by his skills, she asks him to train her as a ranger. Though he is hesitant at first to train a woman of her class, Caliphany’s hefty sack of gold finally persuades him. Unfortunately, her father is not amused, and the two must escape before Caliphany faces a forced marriage and Galadin faces a noose.

From that moment on, she and Galadin embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Only if they can survive the trials ahead, will they find a love that stands the test of time.

Review: Beneath

Beneath by Cambria Hebert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It felt a lot like love.

Gemma came from a place where everything was perfect, beautiful, and predictable. But that all came to an end when she fell in love with a human. For though she gained his love, she lost her white wings.

Gemma entered into the Heven and Hell series surrounded by mystery. She wormed her way into Cole’s heart without even trying. Now, readers are treated to a bit of her back story, and though it’s still a little vague, it puts her into perspective. From her strength to her sadness, Gemma is a unique character that adds a wonderful dimension to the series.

With the end in sight, Beneath delivers another facet an integral character in the Heven and Hell series. It is a quick read that will leave readers aching for the next book.

Review: Caught in a Moment

Caught in a Moment
Caught in a Moment by Martin Dukes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“I don’t runner bean believe it. We’re like Robin turnip Hood or something.”

Alex Trueman finds himself with a very unusual ability–he can daydream himself between time. What starts as a harmless wandering, pulling pranks on his classmates, turns into something more when he gets stuck in Intersticia. Alex learns he’s not alone in this daydream and there are rules that must be followed or all of the inhabitants of Intersticia will be at risk.

This delightfully fresh tale follows Alex as he struggles with the position his daydreams have put him in. A wide range of personable characters make up the world of Intersticia with Alex, helping and hindering him in his quest to return to normal time.

The language is very British/European, so American readers may have to use context to get a few of the slangs and references, but that shouldn’t stop readers from reading. And while the ending was appropriate, it was also abrupt, though probably intentionally so.

Challenging our outlook on time itself, Caught in a Moment is sure to entertain young adult and adult readers alike.

“Stupid – men.” (Definition provided by Piper and many other women across the globe.)

Piper was leaving work when she felt Dex’s eyes on her. Unknown to her, he intended to mug her. But his intentions and what happened end up being very different things. Now he’s faced with a choice: Love or Death?

Fans of Hebert’s other works will recognize the voice of this story as similar in fashion. The pace is well done, with enough emotional roller coasters to keep readers turning pages. The chapters are titled with definitions, and are often predictors of what is to come. It ends up being a bitter/sweet story about second chances and what we do with them.

In what promises to be a good first book of the series, Recalled introduces readers to the workings G.R. and his coat closet and hints at more “outfits” to come.

Review: Winter Eve

Winter Eve
Winter Eve by Lia Davis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“You’re being lead away by a cat, like Alice and that damn rabbit…”

Danica just wants to be left alone, without the pity and sorrow her folk look at her with. But when she darts in front of Nevan’s car and leads him back to her house, alone is suddenly the last thing she wants to be anymore.

As this is a precursor to the actual Ashwood Falls series, it sets up the characters well, showing the depth of Dani’s scars and how Nev’s strange upbringing can help. Though short, readers can get an idea of what will follow, setting the stage for a unique blend of were/human interactions.

Winter Eve challenges readers to see the “pack” differently, to go beyond the scars (both inside and out), and to be true to your inner animal.
