New Release: Fargoer

Today’s new release is called Fargoer. If you like books based on folklore, this might just be for you!

Fargoer_ebook (2)

Blurb:

Hear the call and join us as we travel to the Far North. To a time and place that exists only in the depths of our ancient past. To the vast woodlands, their surface unbreached by any plow. These stories wander in the winds of that distant land, in the cold whispers of the ancient forests.

Vierra is a strong-minded girl of the Kainu tribe. When she, along with her cousin, heads for a journey toward her adulthood, the forces that are to direct her life are set in motion.

Can Vierra break her path painted in stone, a path leading her toward a life filled with great turmoil? Can she find her place among her tribe, or will she fulfill her destiny as the Fargoer?

Fargoer begins the series of fantasy novels that draws its power from the harsh, yet beautiful nature and folklore of Finland. Its roots are at the same time in mythology and in the ancient, unwritten history. Fargoer’s foundation has been laid on the wonders of the ancient world, and the fast-paced storytelling is colored by poetry, the age-old tradition of self-expression.

Bio of Petteri Hannila:

I am a writer from Central Finland, a software designer by day and a dad/husband/dreamer/martial artist by evening.

It all started when I was eight years old. I found out that there were books of Tarzan, my childhood hero. My mother started to read them to me, but censored them – all of you who have read them know why. Annoyed by this, I started to read them on my own. Dreams and legends have followed me from that time, as companions on my voyage through life.

Since then I’ve always thought of becoming a writer, but somehow it just didn’t happen for a long, long time. There was always something more important to do. Finally I understood that it would never happen if I didn’t start. So I did.

From the days of Tarzan, exciting adventures and fantasy stories set in the past and the future have been my interest. For me, the natural choice was to start writing science fiction and fantasy. Some years ago I came up with the idea of Fargoer, and you could say that writing about Vierra’s adventures has been my love interest since then. Some of my other short stories have been published in Finnish genre magazines.

So the dream of becoming a writer, almost 30 years after I first read about Tarzan’s adventures, is on its way to become reality. At least they can’t say that I didn’t try.

New Release: Everville

Today I have a new release that looks really interesting. It was just released on the 11th, the first in a series. I think the cover looks like a mix of Star Wars and a wizard. What do you think?
Everville2

Blurb:

The book is essentially a hero’s struggle between good and evil set in an urban and epic fantasy setting. The lead character, Owen Sage, has just discovered a fantasy world that has a very real connection to his own.  He mysteriously crossed into another dimension, into the beautiful land of Everville then discovered that there was a darkness seeping into his world and the new land which he discovered, Everville. He has to find a way to save both worlds while joining forces with the race of Fron and The Keepers as well as his college friends at Easton Falls University.

Excerpt:

We hurriedly walked towards the desk. The Keeper reached up and grabbed a rectangular shaped object from one of the crates. He pointed at some characters that appeared on the screen of the object and said, “See. It’s all wrong!” I tried to make out what was on the screen, but the characters were unrecognizable. It was like some sort of ancient language I had never seen before. I asked, “What’s wrong?”“

Everything is wrong. I don’t know if we can fix it.”

“Fix what?”

New Release: Tanner

Today’s new release is a special one! I had the pleasure of working with author Mona Hanna on this book! It’s called Tanner (Prentor Book 2) and is the sequel to Myriad.  It’s a sweet tale of love, spell casting, friendship, and forgiveness. I’ve done some beta reading for Mona in the past (on the first book in this series, actually), so I was happy to work with her on this one as well! I hear there’s a third book in the works and can’t wait to see what awaits these characters!
If you’re looking for a quick read full of magic, check this one out! Though you should probably just go all in and get Myriad first to get the introduction to the characters!

Tanner_Cover_End_mediumBlurb:

Kalin is looking forward to his future with Regina, and finding out where his path lies. Then a new danger disrupts the life of him and his friends. Lisandra is a dark witch, experienced in using the worst kinds of magic. After forever damaging the lives of two in the group, she’s returned, and has a plan which could lead to the deaths of many in Prentor. The group is determined to stop Lisandra, not only to save the lives of strangers, but to help get Mark’s brother, Tanner, out of her clutches. But can Mark and Sasha ever forgive Tanner for what he’s done to them?

This is a NOVELLA of approximately 40,000 words.

New Release: Fingerless Gloves

Today’s new release is Fingerless Gloves by Nick Orsini, which won the Fiction Fast-Track award. Check out the blurb/links below!

bookfingerlessBlurb:

Tonight will be the most difficult night in 25-year-old Anton Duchamp’s life.

When his best friend James Squire is mysteriously rushed to hospital, Anton begins a night-long journey that takes him from shady, marijuana-smoke-filled apartments to ex-girlfriends’ bedrooms, and eventually back to his childhood home.

As the night unfolds, so do new revelations about Anton’s recreational drug use and his past failures. And as Friday night drags into Saturday morning, he learns of James’s deteriorating health. In a universe that has seemingly left him without a specific function, it takes a single night for Anton to realize that no one will ever hand him a meaning or a purpose.

Fingerless Gloves by Nick Orsini, which won the Fiction Fast-Track prize for new writing, is a story about best friends and the mistakes we never knew we were making. It is a story about remembering – by any means necessary.

New Release: Water Harvest

Today’s new release post is for Water Harvest by Eric Diehl. This is a sci-fi fantasy book that for some reason reminds me of Dune from the blurb/cover.  Check it out!

WaterHarvestBookCover

Blurb:

The Great Houses of Kast’ar have grown complacent. Technological adaptation bolsters a fragile biosphere, but one quandary remains unattended. Lunar-based harvest vessels orbit continuously, extracting their toll of moisture from the upper atmosphere.

Over time, the planet dries.

Now the Rules are caught unawares when a lunar enclave launches an invasion intended to seize control of the Harvest. House Alar, the greatest of the bloodline Keeps, falls before the predatory warlord. The invader’s technology is strong and they are aided by the Guild; wizard-like practitioners whose hallucinogen-induced evocations bend fate to their will.

It falls to Cairn, Legion pilot and displaced heir to Alar, to persuade the House Alliance to intercede. His father and his love Neilai are held hostage, and a battered Cairn is dispatched to carry the vile interloper’s edict. With few resources at hand, Cairn and boisterous comrade Dirc Cutter are thrust into a changed world. The Alliance falters and Cairn, son of House Alar, learns how little he knows of his home world. Review: Noah Zarc: Cataclysm

Noah Zarc: Cataclysm
Noah Zarc: Cataclysm by D. Robert Pease
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“This is how you get things done. Find the right people, put them in a room, lock the doors, and throw lots of money at them.”

Noah is off to find out more about his past when he accidentally finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Caught between finding his family and his curiosity about his past, Noah does what any bot his age would — head off on a dangerous, exciting adventure.

A good follow-up to book one, book two follows Noah as he meets new friends, encounters old enemies, and travels through space and time on his quest. Full of action, Noah and his can-do attitude shine, reaffirming that even the smallest, most handicapped-looking people can make a difference.

A well-written, adventurous read for young readers and even adults, Noah Zarc blasts through space and into your imagination.

New Release: Secrets of a Universe

Ok, for those of you who don’t know, I was lucky enough to be the editor on this one. It was one of those “right place, right time” kind of deals, and I’m really glad.

See, this book is set in my hometown (the name has been changed), is by a guy I swear I knew as a kid (but didn’t know him back then), and is part of a series to keep me busy for a long time. Though there were some road bumps in getting it publish-ready, we finally put it out there for the world. I truly hope it does well.

While the paperback isn’t out yet (will be soon, just waiting on the proof), the ebooks have hit the virtual shelves. I’d love to have some help spreading the word on this one — anyone that loves a good action-adventure, sci-fi should enjoy it — so if you’re willing to help, please contact me.

And now, the book!

Blurb:

Krystal Taylor has been under the military’s thumb since birth. Her power of astral projection requires it — without daily Mindkey treatments, she will die a horrible death. She wants freedom from her leash, the freedom to let her flesh and blood, not just her mind, experience the world.

While on an unauthorized hiking expedition, designed to give her some space from her spying duties and the hundreds of government agents and prying scientists who keep her alive, she is captured by a band of terrorists, threatening much more than her life. Unless Dan Parker, the director of the Mindkey Project, and Dr. George Larkin, its key scientist, can reach her in time, the entire planet may fall into the clutches of the worst terrorist mankind has ever produced.

From the farthest reaches of outer space to the inner depths of the planet Earth, every soul — dead or alive — waits, unknowingly, for Krystal to be found — or turned into a weapon.
