Today, I’m happy to be part of the Fire & Ice Blog Tour! My guest today is the author of the Heven and Hell series, and also has a new series coming out soon! This lovely lady has a lot to say, usually because she’s hopped up on coffee! Today she’s going to be chatting about the history of Valentine’s Day. After, there’s a giveaway for one of her works, so don’t miss out! Without further ado, here is the wonderful Cambria Hebert!!
History of Valentine’s Day.
Hi everyone!
I’m so happy to be here today as part of the Fire & Ice blog hop! Since Valentine’s day is approaching I was brainstorming ideas about what kind of blog posts I could write about the holiday.
I started to wonder where V-day came from. I mean, did it originate with a tiny man in a diaper that went around shooting “arrows of love” at lonely people?
Was it merely engineered by big time marketing reps who just wanted one more thing to fill the shelves at big name stores and give people a reason to shop?
Nope.
Not according to the internet.
And since I found this via the great wide web you know it must be true.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
Anyway, I found this website called Everything Valentine’s Day http://www.everythingvalentinesday.com/valentines-day-history.html
and it is on this site where they talked about where V-day originated.
A lot of the theories all originated back in the Roman A.D. times with saints who were named Valentine and have all been martyred. (There are 3 saints with the name Valentine).
While those stories are very interesting – okay frankly I skipped over that part to get to the better one. Lol.
Here’s the one that I am choosing to believe started Valentine’s day:
“There is an interesting story portraying the love affair between St. Valentine and the jailor’s daughter. St. Valentine left a farewell note for her, the note read- “from your Valentine. Valentine’s Day is said to have started in the Roman Empire.” (quoted from the site mentioned above)
Kind of forbidden love-ish right??
Although hey, the tiny man with a diaper and arrows is still a good theory. J
But really the Valentine site said it best when they said “Legends aside, the popularity of the Valentine’s Day rose manifold among the people and in tune with it Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St. Valentine, the patron saint of love and romance.”
So that is a little bit of history behind Valentine’s Day. Personally, I just like it because it’s a good excuse for my husband to get me flowers, LOL.
What about you – do you like valentine’s day? Do you have an theories on where it originated?
Thank you so much for having me here today!!
Thank YOU, Cambria! And if you’ve not heard of this lady, you best use those buy links! She has a new release, Recalled, coming out on the 15th (I’ll have a promo posted along with my review). Don’t miss this new series from a great author!!
Blurb:
Love or Death? A simple question really. The choice seems obvious. But. What if you never knew love, what if your life was spent just trying to survive? What if you knew your fate before you were fully grown?
And then you died.
And you were given another chance. A better chance.
This new life depended upon one thing: your job. And so you agreed. You thought it would be simple. You thought it would be cut and dry.
It never is.
And now you are left holding the fate of someone else in the palm of your hand and you have to make the ultimate choice.
Love or Death?
